With the winter season upon us, people are urged to be cautious when using fire in order to prevent fires from spreading.

When temperatures drop in winter, most people love to light a cosy fire or to snuggle up to a heater to keep warm. All of these heating efforts increase the risk of fires in the home. Majority of all fires are caused by human negligence, specifically through electrical faults or carelessness. Cigarettes, matches and lighters, candles, heating appliances and open braai fires can all cause fires if not carefully watched.

Some safety tips to prevent loss of life, damage to property and whilst keeping warm during winter and loadshedding.
